Student Policy Sheet

Welcome to the Step Up Program! This is a drop out prevention program designed to help students succeed!

The student's transcript will be reviewed to determine what classes the student needs to graduate. The student will then be assigned a class and given equipment needed for the program. Students who have internet service may use their own internet. The student is given a log-in and password to access the software.

The student is assigned an advocate who will contact them at least 2 to 3 times per week to give any assistance the student needs. If at any time a student needs any technical or classwork assistance, they may contact their advocate.

The student must complete one class per month in order to remain in the program. Once a class is successfully completed, the student is assigned another class, until all classes needed for high school graduation have been finished.

The equipment provided to you by Step Up is on loan to you for the time you are in the Step Up program. Equipment must be returned at the end of your time in Step Up. Please take good care of this equipment that is being loaned to you.

As a Step Up student, I understand:

  • If I need help, I should immediately contact my Step Up advocate.
  • I must speak with my advocate once per week. I understand this is mandatory.
  • I must successfully complete one class per month. When I complete the coursework, I must contact my advocate so my final can be activated.
  • I must work at least 12 hours a week in the Step Up Program
  • If I start the program needing less than 2 credits (4 classes) to graduate, I must complete 2 credits or 4 full classes to graduate and be enrolled in the Step Up program at least 2 months.
  • If I do not make progress or work in my classes, or contact my advocate weekly, I will be dropped from the program.
  • I must return the provided equipment when I am no longer in the program. Credit will not be issued for students who do not return their equipment.
  • I plan to use my own internet.
  • I agree to participate in the testing and assessments as mandated by the Michigan Department of Education.
